CLASSES WE OFFER

What’s In The Dirt? 

(3rd-5th grades)

Do your kids like to dig holes? Do you wish that there was some meaning to the mess they make? Well let’s make it educational! In this class students will get hands on experience with things found in the ground. We’ll learn how to identify common minerals and rocks, and  even touch real fossils, including dinosaur bones!

Cryptozoology – Investigating Unknown Animals 

(7th-12th grades)

How do we discover new animals? How do we know if a report of something mysterious out in nature is fantastical or legitimate? How should we record our own findings? In this class on Cryptozoology, learn how to apply analytical scientific techniques to investigate the unknown using reports on both unverified and confirmed creatures from around the world such as the Loch Ness Monster, the Chupacabra and the Coelacanth. 

Geology 

(High School 9th-12th grades)

Learn how rocks and sediments form, how geologists explore deep underground, and how we can use geological data and techniques to understand the world around us. Engage in hands on activities identifying various types of rocks and minerals as well as real plant and dinosaur fossils. 

Videography and Moviemaking

(7th-12th grades)

Light’s, Camera, Action! Students will be introduced to the world of filmmaking and video production. They will learn how to tell a story through visual imagery, edit digital media and be able to create many different types of videos, including their own short film!

America’s Constitutional Government

(High School 10th-12th grades)

Take a journey line by line through the founding document of our nation’s government. Discover the historical circumstances of how the laws came to be, and how the Constitution and its’ Amendments shape our lives each day. Taught with a touch of reverent sarcasm, this course will teach not only the history of our government, but also what rights and responsibilities students have as citizens of the United States of America.

Personal Finance

(7th-12th grades)

Money, money, money! An important part of life, but how does one earn those dollars, and how do they know what can be spent on things needed versus things wanted? In this Personal Finance course, students will explore how to be mangers of their own finances, the ways they can earn money, how to budget their funds, how to start a business, and how to establish a healthy mindset about money. 

Leatherworking

(6th-12th grades)

This class will cover the fundamentals of working with leather (veg-tanned and suede) from start to finish. Students will get hands on practice with tools, colors, decoration, hardware, and carving as they make their own leather wallets, pouches, and accessories.

ABOUT US

QRF Eduction is run by husband and wife team, Stephen and Mackenzie Marts.

Stephen is a Cultural Resource Management Archaeologist and United States Marine Corps Veteran who has worked and studied across the United States, and in various countries around the world. He has a Master’s Degree in Geology from Ohio University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from University of California Riverside. His interests of further study and research are sedimentology, Southeast Asian archaeology, paleontology, and ethnozoology. When not conducting fieldwork, Stephen creates and sells handcrafted costume and artisan items of metal, plastic, and leather. 

Mackenzie is a Filmmaker/Videographer specializing in Live Events, Documentary Life Stories, and Small Business Marketing. She also has passion and interest in health, history, law, and in finding all the points of connection that tie everything together.

Stephen and Mackenzie both enjoy long discussions about all the nerdy things, and living life with their five children.
